Ever year, the Daily Variety puts together a list of ten screenwriters to watch. The 2008 list is out today and here they are:

J. Michael Straczynski

Joe Penhall

Paul Webb

One interesting thing about this year’s list is there are a couple of not-just-out-of-film-school youngsters on it. Straczynski is in his 50s and has been around Hollywood writing TV for years and only recently made the jump to feature films. Paul Webb is 60 years old and, as the Variety article says, screenwriting is his “third career.”

So those of you who worry about trying to break into the business at ‘advanced’ age, take heart as there’s still room in Hollywood for “old farts.”
