Don’t text in movie theaters!
You have been warned!
Pure awesomeness from the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas.
Texters of the world, here’s a clue: We cinema fans go to a theater to be transported into the movie’s universe. Whenever your shiny little smartphone screen lights up in the darkness, your distraction yanks us out of that world and into your own damn world.
If I was all that interested in your damn world, I would pay you money for an invite.
Actually strike that. Because anyone who goes to a movie, then feels like whatever they have going on in their peabrain is worthy of texting to one of their peabrain friends, it’s probably fair to say that your universe sucks, and I would hate it there… so gimme my money back!
You want to text? There’s this place. It’s called a lobby:

And while you’re there, you can fling some Milk Duds down your piehole.
I’m totally fine with you slinking out to the lobby to text until your thumbs fall off.
But texting in a dark theater when the movie is playing?
You deserve to be kicked out!
This has been a message from SMART: Serious Moviegoers Against Rankling Texters.
UPDATE: Here is an interview with Alamo owner Tim League:
Why is this policy so important to you? Obviously you want to give your patrons the best possible experience, but your passion makes it seem more personal than that.
We instituted the policy two or three months into operation. Because there’s beer served, that seems to be a gateway to people thinking it’s a more casual theater experience and I put the hammer down. It drove me crazy, and it is personal. It’s just how I want it in my ideal theater.
The video has had over 400K hits since it launched yesterday.
UPDATE #2: Via jwebb66, more movie theater etiquette:

Hey, NASA Scientists! How hard can it be to invent rustle-free containers? Nothing like watching some great actors deliver brilliant lines of dialogue in a movie while the guy directly behind you is doing a massive dumpster dive into his super-sized bag of popcorn… again and again and again.
So we’ve inevitably ended up here: What bad movie theater behavior bugs you the most?
UPDATE #3: Thanks to @CanadianNick for this link:
So there you go. If you talk in a theater when a movie is playing, George Romero will kill you.
