Spec Script Deal: “Category Six”

New Line acquires natural disaster spec script “Category Six” from writer John Swetnam. From Deadline:

The film takes a first-person POV through video cameras and cell phones to tell the story of high school students who try to survive the worst hurricane in U.S. history.

This is Swetnam’s 2nd spec script sale in 2011. “Evidence” sold in January.

Swetnam is repped by APA and Jack Wagner.

By my count, this is the 85th spec script to sell in 2011.

Only 55 spec scripts sold in 2010.

Only 68 spec scripts sold in 2009.

Spec script sales are up 81% year-to-date over last year.
