Spec Script Sale: “Hidden”

Warner Bros. buys horror-thriller spec script “Hidden” from first-timers and twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer. Per Variety:

Project is an elevated horror-thriller about a family hiding in a bomb shelter after escaping a mysterious outbreak.

Deal contains progress-to-production language, indicating that the project is expected to start production next year rather than languish in development.

The Duffers are recent grads of Chapman University.

Two other things of note:

* Yet another thriller which has been far and away the #1 genre for spec script sales in 2011.

* Warner Bros. is driving the market having acquired 15 spec scripts this year, almost double the total they have bought each of the last three years [8 per year].

By my count, this is the 99th spec script sale of the year.

Only 55 spec scripts sold in 2010.

Only 68 spec scripts sold in 2009.

Spec script sales are up 90% year-to-date over last year.

Who is going to buy the 100th spec script in 2011?
