Spec Script Sale: “Coffee Town”

CollegeHumor Media will finance and produce workplace comedy “Coffee Town” as its first theatrical release. Written and to be directed by Brad Copeland. Per THR:

“Coffee Town” focuses on Will, played by [Glenn] Howerton [It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia], and his two thirty-something friends who band together when their freeloading existence is threatened.

Seeing as this is a project which is set to go before cameras next month, “Coffee Town” is not your basic “weekend read” spec deal, something that’s been in the works for months.

Copeland is repped by UTA.

By my count, this is the 5th spec script sale of the year.

The 5th spec script didn’t sell last year until February 16th.

Interesting to note 3 out of the first 5 spec scripts to sell in 2012 are comedies. Maybe an early indication of that genre reversing a downward sales trend for the last few years.
