New Regency acquires spec drama-comedy “One Night Stand” from actor-writer Joel Edgerton. Per THR:
A drama with comedic elements, the script is described as an honest look at a man and a woman in the aftermath of a one night stand.
The deal, which also sees Edgerton exec producing, occurred late last year.
Okay, I guess I will have to revise the 2011 total to 110 sold which is exactly double the previous year’s 55 spec sales.
Of course for Hollywood ‘veterans,’ this brings to mind the 1997 movie One Night Stand starring Wesley Snipes. If memory serves correct, Joe Eszterhas sold the project for several million dollars based on something like a 3-page treatment. He wrote a first draft that included a 65 page description of a marathon sex session, then subsequently dropped off the project which was picked up by Mike Figgis.
Let’s hope this “One Night Stand” has a happier track record than that one.
