  1. Four score and seven stakings ago!

I’ll have to see this, as it’s just bonkers. I know it’s an adaptation, so I don’t think this happens: but it would be great alternative history to suggest that Lincoln freed the slaves to help fight a vampire war.

  2. Since Appomattox there have been over 65,000 books on the Civil War published, more than one per day…more than one per day.

How many films since Birth of A Nation?

What is the fascination with our war of wars?

Maybe it’s a train wreck that we just can’t stop watching because it’s so terribly real.

    • I’ve often wondered about the US Civil War and its place in fiction/ film. In the UK, we also had a Civil War – and it barely crops up in fiction, and almost never appears on film.

Is it because it was a good two hundred years earlier, and thus feels less accessible than the US Civil War? Are the causes less easily grasped? I just don’t know…

  3. Not familiar with the UK Civil War, but there are Americans who still proudly wave the Confederate flag. I think that answers the
question of why there is much media about it.

Founding our country on the backs of slaves was our original sin, and the The Civil War was the fight to determine who was right. Those who lost aren’t over it, and it’s a large reason we face racial issues today.
