Sony acquires action spec script “White House Down” written by James Vanderbilt. From Variety:

Described as “Die Hard” meets “Air Force One.”

This follows up another White House action spec sale “Olympus Has Fallen” which happened on March 13.

What happened to the conventional wisdom that political movies are a hard sell?

Ah, not if they’re in the action genre!

Per Deadline, deal is worth a reported $3M.

Vanderbilt is repped by WME and UFUSE Management.

By my count, this is the 32nd spec script sale of 2012.

There were 24 spec sales through this date last year.

Spec sales are up 33% year-to-date compared to 2011.
