1st Quarter 2012: Studio Box Office Numbers

Last year at this time, the chatter was what was wrong with domestic box office, the first quarter the beginning of a poor 12 months resulting in the lowest number of ticket sales in over a decade.

First quarter 2012? No problem! Up 23.2% compared to 2011 [$2,572,171,672 / $2,086,958,637].

Some notable studio jumps year-to-date:

Warner Bros.: +25.2%
Universal: +79.3%
20th Century Fox: +153.0%
Lionsgate: +692.1%

Re Lionsgate: That’s primarily the result of a little movie called The Hunger Games.
