Spec Script Sale: “Somacell”

Warner Bros. acquires dystopian thriller “Somacell” from writer Ashleigh Powell. From Deadline:

“Somacell” chronicles a female prison guard in the near future who discovers that the virtual reality process that rehabilitates convicts is not all it promises to be.

Deal is reported to be in the mid-six figures.

Powell is a first-timer. Congratulations, Ashleigh!

She is repped by Gersh and Benderspink.

By my count, this is the 82nd spec script sale in 2012.

Last year at this time, there were 90 spec script sales.

Spec script sales are down 10% year-to-date compared to 2011.
