From the trailer it looks like a mixed bag of a movie that wants to be about something but stays in the safe rom-com zone. Let’s hope it’s actually about something.

    1. I’m in total agreement Bryan. In fact I’ll take it a step further. I would like to grab this trailer by the lapels and shake it and scream “WHAT ARE YOU?!” to its face.

Perhaps this is just a case of shoddy work from the marketing department but I don’t think so. That sloppy logline doesn’t exactly set my mind at ease.

In Hollywood’s haste to make certain movies “all things to all people,” I fear they’ve shot themselves in the foot time and time again. There was an action film trailer Scott showcased here three or four months ago that suffered from the same schizophrenia – – can’t recall the title but it started as a prison break, become a chase film, had elements of a romanctic drama, and ended as a courtroom thriller. They seemed about one stroke away from trying to blow up the Death Star. It’s ultimately sloppy storytelling, unnaturalistic plot turns for the sake of pleasing every possible ticket holder. I realize film is the somewhat disquieting alchemy of art and commerce but I fear both are torpedoed when you force it like this.
