Spec Script Sale: “12/24″

June 13th, 2013 by

1492 Pictures and Ocean Blue Entertainment acquire family Christmas spec script “12/24″ written by Matt Lieberman. From TheWrap:

…two brothers who try to prove Santa Claus is real using a home video camera.  The two brothers end up joining St. Nick on his Christmas Eve sleigh ride, but cause his sleigh to crash and must save Christmas.

The idea was hatched by screenwriter David Guggenheim who is attached as a producer on the project. You may read my interview with Guggenheim, who wrote Safe House, here.

Lieberman is repped by WME and Madhouse Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 48th spec script sale in 2013.

There were 60 spec script sales year-to-date in 2012.

  1. Just wondering, why do you think the spec market is down right now and what does this mean for the future, for next year?

Also, just wondering, what genres are hot right now in the spec screenplay market? Action, Horror, Contained Thriller, or Contained Action Horror Thriller?

    Congratulations, Matt!

  3. So happy to see a Christmas spec sell! One of my screenwriting dreams is to write a Christmas movie and to see that one has sold as a spec is very motivating and inspiring!! Congrats to Matt and David!
