Richard Kelly reviews “Gone Girl”

Writer-director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko, Southland Tales, The Box) reviewed Gone Girl on his Tumblr account. Did he like it? How about this quote:

Fincher’s 10th feature film is riveting, exquisitely crafted and spectacularly entertaining. It walks a tightrope above the trappings of various genres, rising above them all to become the most unique of cinematic experiences. It is the movie we have been waiting for — and the movie we sorely deserve.

In his excellent review, Kelly draws an interesting comparison to Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Kelly’s post is well worth the read, but of course: Spoiler Alert!

If you are one to complain about the lack of quality movies Hollywood produces nowadays and you do not pay to see Gone Girl when it’s in theaters, your whining is as vacuous and noxious as geese farts on a muggy day. When movies like this get released, those of us who love cinema have a moral responsibility to support them. That is the only way Hollywood will take notice and make more quality films.

Besides which, Gone Girl kicks ass in every conceivable way.
