Daily Dialogue — June 30, 2016

TEMP: I’m not even sure that I can give you this information!
JONATHAN: Yes, you can, oh why can’t you?
TEMP: Because I’m just a temp, okay? I don’t know the rules!
DEAN: A couple months out of college, you’re already acting like you’re part of the establishment.
TEMP: No, no, no… What about privacy law, huh?
JONATHAN: Forget about privacy laws. You know what privacy laws do?
TEMP: No.
JONATHAN: They protect millionaires. You know who those millionaires are?
TEMP: Who?
JONATHAN: Tell him who they are. Tell him.
DEAN: Kids your age. Pimple-face college dropouts who have made unhealthy sums of money forming Internet companies that create no concrete products, provide no viable services and still manage to generate profits for all of its lazy, day-trading son-of-a-bitch shareholders. Meanwhile, as a tortured member of the disenfranchised proletariat, you find some altruistic need to protect these digital plantation owners?
JONATHAN: Wow. Come on.

The Daily Dialogue for the week: Rant. Today’s suggestion by Melinda.

Trivia: A gap of twelve-to-fifteen years was originally intended for the time between the Jonathan and Sara’s first meeting and eventual reunion, and the characters were initially written to be in their early twenties. Audiences felt that both Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack were not ‘fresh faced’ enough to pull off early twenties in the scenes and that the time line had been too poorly established to tell that the characters met in the late 1980s. Eventually, the film was edited and establishes a five year gap between the initial meeting of the characters, and their reunion.
