2014 Writer’s Calendar

I was talking last week with Shaula Evans, Moderator Par Excellence of The Black Board (the official free online community for the Black List and Go Into The Story), and we stumbled onto what I think is a great idea: Why don’t we put together a writer’s calendar for 2014? Something you can download as a PDF, even print out to put up on a wall as a reference throughout the year.

To do this, we need your help in aggregating important dates. Here’s a starter list:

* Major writing competition deadlines such as the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, the Austin Film Festival Screenplay & Teleplay Competitions, Sundance Screenwriters Lab.

* Deadlines for competitions for various TV network fellowships like the CBS Writing Mentoring Program, Disney/ABC Writing Fellowship, Fox Writers Intensive, NBC’s Writers on the Verge, Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship, WB Writers Workshop.

* Important film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival.

* Award ceremonies like the Golden Globe Awards, Spirit Awards, WGA Awards, Academy Awards, Emmy Awards.

* Writing challenges such as the National Novel Writing Month, Go On Your Own Quest.

* Black List related items like the annual Black List, Black List Screenwriters Lab.

Of course, it could include holidays. Maybe significant dates in the history of TV, movies, novels and the like (e.g., the birth date of Flannery O’Connor, the premiere date of The Wizard of Oz).

What would you like to see on a writer’s calendar for 2014? We’ll take your suggestions, talk them through with some design people, and see what comes out. Who knows? Maybe it becomes an annual thing.
