“AkCC”: Online comic book
With Hwood movie studios acquiring so many graphic novels and comic books, screenwriters need to pay attention to what’s going on in that part of contemporary culture. And so I draw our collective attention to AkCC, an online comic book created by a talented young woman named AJ Jardine. It’s a dark story world, which reflects so many of the graphic novels and comic books nowadays. Here in her own words is the creator of AkCC AJ Jardine:
The story of AkCC is that of an average girl with a not so average upbringing. Allison, or Aji, is the main character first introduced to the audience as this mid-twenties college student. She’s witty, she strong, she’s also vulnerable, a very human character, and through her eyes, you meet the core cast, being her best friend and co-worker, Lance, her friend Mikey, and his boss Pinky. You also meet her uncle and in this first chapter you learn, in very small but direct ways, her relationships with these people. You have a love interest, for example, with Mikey, and you get a glimpse of her past and family life. Again, its very natural. Chapter 2, the tables turn. Allison wakes up after losing a day and doesn’t know what’s happened. That’s when the audience starts to learn about these murders around the city. Then the whole story picks up. This isn’t a story about burned out college students, its about much more, and there’s the conflict of whether or not Allison is or is not the murderer, and not only that, but why she doesn’t remember, what is she going to do about this and how are others going to react to this.
The funny thing about AkCC, is the storyline has evolved into something much bigger from the original outline, the characters have actually taken on a life of their own. The story is now is Chapter 4 and it’s just reached a point where you know almost all of the main players. You know their ties to the situation, you know most of their relationships and personalities, from here on out, it’s all action. This is a story without heroes and villains, only characters. It’s dark. It’s actually very dark, so it’s obviously not a story for everyone. If anything, the story is sort of a horror, mystery, psychological thriller. The story is also just getting started. There is plenty more to come and anyone who reads is better not miss a moment of it.
It’s great to see a young person turned on by creativity — and it’s always fascinating to gain insight into how a mind works when dealing with character and plot.
