All sorts of updates

#1: For the first time in 5 years, the blog will be on an abbreviated schedule today due to my son Will’s graduation. So look for Screenwriting News, Studying Aristotle’s “Poetics,” and Go Into The Story Week In Review later this week.

#3: Re The Quest Initiative: Evidently there was some confusion caused by this post, specifically the point made by Max Millimeter:

That’s why I have the six-word rule. You got six words… count ‘em… one, two, three, four, five, six… six words in your logline to get my attention. If six words in your logline don’t come right at me, high and hard, and knock me on my keister, then you ain’t getting my attention. And your story? That’s a big fat Pasadena.

That does not mean you can only use six words to compose your logline. Rather that as an exercise, you analyze your logline to see if you can discern six key words in it, then if those six key words convey a compelling story concept.

The loglines you submit to The Quest Initiative can be as long as you like. Obviously brevity is important. Generally one sentence, almost always no more than two…

…BUT YOUR LOGLINES DO NOT HAVE TO BE SIX WORDS LONG!

Again Max’s point is to use this six word challenge to zero in on your logline’s key elements and whether those comprise a story concept that will grab someone’s attention.
