Are moviegoers in the U.S. and U.K. this different?

So here is the U.S. version of the new Prometheus trailer:

And here is the U.K. version:

If you screen them back to back, you see they approach their task of conveying their marketing message very differently… which leads GITS reader The Bark Bites Back to ask:

Here’s a question: I seem to notice a lot of foreign trailers for movies tend to focus on the story more than the American version. Why do you suppose that is?
Are we really more attuned to bombastic visuals vs. story?

Is this simply the studio debuting one trailer with one tone here, another trailer with another tone there, then we’ll eventually see them swap sides of the ocean, we’ll all hold hands and sing Kum-Ba-Yah [or God Save The Queen] together?

Or are Americans in need of bombast in our lives as opposed to a strong narrative?
