Are you ready for a Go Into The Story eBook series?
One released every month in 2017. And best of all, they’re free!
One released every month in 2017. And best of all, they’re free!
In the 8+ years I have hosted Go Into The Story, I have published over 20,000 posts. I think we can all agree that’s an impressive number. It can also be overwhelming for a reader, especially someone new to the site to try to figure out how best to use the blog as a learning resource.
Learning resource. That’s one of the primary reasons I launched GITS back in May 2008: To provide information and insights grounded in my experience of three decades working in the movie and TV business, and to make that content available for free.
It’s my goal as a writer and teacher to do whatever I can to help open up the gates of entry to the world of screenwriting, and writing generally, to any and all who feel the call to follow their creative bliss. That’s one of the primary reasons I am proud to be partnered with the Black List to support our shared vision of creating new avenues for gifted writers with unique voices to break into Hollywood.
That vision has taken on new meaning and importance with cultural events these last several years. As I said in this tweet a few months back:
Beyond that, we need storytellers of all stripes who have a GIFT and who have SOMETHING TO SAY.
With all that in mind, I am happy to announce a new initiative which I hope will make the content on this blog even more of a learning resource:
Every month in 2017, I will be publishing a Go Into The Story eBook.
Here are the twelve titles (not necessarily in this order):
30 Things About Screenwriting
So-Called Screenwriting ‘Rules’
Everything You Wanted to Know About Specs
Guide to Aristotle’s “Poetics”
Character Types
How To Read A Screenplay
Writing A Script
Rewriting a Script
Movie Story Types
The Theology of Screenwriting
Writing and the Creative Life
The Business of Screenwriting
Each is an aggregation of a blog series previously published on the blog. The idea is that having the content available as a readable PDF will be a more useful way for writers to digest these ideas and information.
Think of it as a kind Go Into The Story Greatest Hits collection.
Each will be free. Download them. Read them. Pass them along.
I reached out to the GITS community for volunteers to help with this effort and I’d like to express my deep gratitude to Trish Curtin and Clay Mitchell. They are stepping up to handle the process of taking blog posts and creating the PDFs in this series. I could not be doing this without the extraordinary efforts of these two fine people. A special blast of creative juju to both!
The first title is “30 Things About Screenwriting…” and it’s 95 pages long, so with 12 eBooks, we are talking about a lot of content.
As always, I don’t claim to be the world’s greatest expert. Everything in these eBooks and on this blog is what I guess one could best call ‘informed opinions’. I’m not an A-list Hollywood writer, but I have written 30 projects for every major movie studio and TV broadcast network, have had 4 movies produced, I have created and produced TV series, and I have taught about the craft and business of screenwriting for 15 years, so I have my own unique perspective on things. If you connect with anything I write, great. If not, feel free to ignore. Each writer needs to figure out their own approach to the craft and as I always say: Every writer is different. Every story is different. There is no one way to write.
My vision in hosting the blog and with this eBook series is simply to contribute to the conversation and hopefully provide writers with some insights and inspiration along the way.
So spread the word, would you? A new monthly Go Into The Story eBook series with the first title available for download on Monday, January 9 right here via the blog.
And once again, thanks to Clay Mitchel and Trish Curtin!
Onward!
