Billy Mernit’s take on Nick & Nora Infinite Playlist
Billy’s got a great post this week, not only patting himself on the back (deservedly so) for his original script analysis of “Nick & Norah’s Inifinite Playlist,” but also providing insight for screenwriters about what story analysts and script readers look for in a script. What appealed to Billy about this project?
“A kind of cross between AFTER HOURS and the oeuvre of John Hughes…”
An identifiable genre and concept with a clear target audience.
“It’s a cut above the norm in that both Nick and Norah are exceptionally likable creations…”
Likability — critical factor re characters.
“Their dialogue is particularly sharp; there’s a wry tone to their humor that makes these 18 year-olds seem very believable…”
Smart dialogue that is believable, sounds like how the character should sound.
Each of these three is so fundamental, we may tend to forget how important they are. Thanks to Billy for reminding us. And that makes two Hwood types who are pimping Nick & Norah. Kudos to the movie’s screenwriter Lorene Scafaria.
