“Fredo, you’re nothing to me now. You’re not a brother, you’re not a friend. I don’t want to know you or what you do. I don’t want to see you at the hotels, I don’t want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won’t be there. You understand?”
— The Godfather: Part II (1974), screenplay by Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo, novel by Mario Puzo
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Siblings.
Trivia: Originally, Kay was to truly have a miscarriage. It was Talia Shire’s idea that she would have an abortion instead, as the ultimate way to hurt Michael. To thank her for this idea, Francis Ford Coppola wrote in the scene in which she tearfully asks Michael to forgive Fredo.
Dialogue On Dialogue: A pivotal relationship in the movie — Michael and Fredo, brothers no more.
