Daily Dialogue — April 15, 2015

JEEBS: Okay, whoa. He’s retired, right?
J: We need the deneuralyzer.
JEEBS: You’re kidding.
J: The meter’s running, Jeebs.
JEEBS (to K): You…remember me?
K (Shakes head): Can’t say I do. I’m pretty good with faces. I think I’d remember that (points at Jeebs’ nose).
JEEBS: Ha ha! The great K’s a neutral.
K: You’re standing between me and my memories, pal. You have this deneuralyzer thing or not?
JEEBS: No. Fresh out. Can’t help you. Don’t got it. Even if I did, if it doesn’t work, he dies and you blow my head off. If it does work, I brought back K who, just for the fun of it, blows my head off. So, what’s my incentive? (J puts a gun to Jeebs’ head.) Okay, homie, I keep it downstairs next to the snowblowers.

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Amnesia. Today’s suggestion by Will King.

Trivia: The noise the neuralyzer makes when it flashes is the sound of a strobe flash reloading. Sound editor Skip Lievsay filtered/modified the sound through a Synclavier synthesizer to make it more high-tech.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by Will: “So many tropes used in this scene. The pawnshop owner who fences illicit goods from the back room (or basement, in this case). The sleazy third-rate criminal who thinks he’s got leverage against the authorities. The silent treatment. Show of extreme force to turn the tide in the conversation. Yet they all work well for comedic effect in this scene.”
