Daily Dialogue — April 26, 2014

Burke: You’ve looked around our place. Where do you think we got most of this stuff?
Irene: Just guess.
Burke: Come on.

Adam and Zach look at each other, unsure where this conversation is going.

Adam: Sears?
Zach: J.C. Penney.
Burke: It’s actually from Confederated Products. Almost everything here is from Confederated Products… from the toilet paper to the candles to the ham.
Irene: The wine.
Burke: The wine, the wine. Even that cologne you liked. Confederated Products is a multilevel, direct wholesaling company. Which means we don’t just sell the products. No sir-ree, Bob! We recruit and manage teams that work under us. Irene and I started eight months ago… and already, we’re pulling in fifty thousand a year in revenues.
Irene: We’re the number four distributor in southern California.
Burke: You got that one, babe.
Irene: And by March, we might be number three.
Burke: As law enforcement officers, we can’t recruit distributors from the force. It’s against the rules. So what we do is… we look for people in other industries…
Irene: Like the entertainment industry.
Zach: Wait. Wait. You want us to sell Amway?
Burke: It’s Confederated Products. It’s a… It’s a different company. It’s a different quality of product.

Go (1999), written by John August

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Sales Pitch.

Trivia: Writer John August had originally intended “Go” to be a short film. The original screenplay was made up basically of the “Ronna” part of the script. The other two sections were added to explain why Simon went to Las Vegas and who Adam & Zack are.

Dialogue On Dialogue: A completely different setting for a sales pitch. Not a retail store. Not a used car lot. Not a real estate deal. A post-meal dining room conversation. Awkward!
