Daily Dialogue — August 1, 2014
“Hey, dude, you proud of me? First one here. [motions to the word “calculus” on chalkboard] What’s Cal-CUE-lus?”
— Stand and Deliver (1988), written by Ramón Menéndez & Tom Musca
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Teaching.
Trivia: Selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry in December 2011 as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Dialogue On Dialogue: In movies like this, the filmmakers have to set a baseline to demonstrate how far the teacher has to go to make progress and achieve success. The tag line of this scene does that when Angel mispronounces the word “calculus”.
If you have a suggestion for this week’s theme, please post in comments.
