“I figured… how much could possibly go wrong in three months?”

The Social Network (2010), screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, book by Ben Mezrich

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Swimming Pool.

Trivia: The only scene Jesse Eisenberg had a problem with was the scene where Mark Zuckerberg films his friends jumping into a swimming pool from a rooftop. Originally Zuckerberg, instead of just filming it, was supposed to join in as well. Eisenberg couldn’t imagine Zuckerberg having that kind of fun. By the time it came to film the scene he was relieved the script had been changed so he just observes it instead.

Dialogue On Dialogue: This is a great example of juxtaposition. The line of dialogue — How much could possibly go wrong in three months? — followed by a hard cut to one guy, then a second zip lining off the roof of the house Zuckerberg and crew are renting, resulting in some wanton destruction, is not only humorous, it’s also a portent for the emotional and psychological havoc to come.
