Daily Dialogue — August 16, 2015

Faith: Two in the morning has been perfectly fine for you lately.
George: What are you talking about?
Faith: I’m talking about the night before last, George.
George: I was in town. I was working.

Beat.

Faith: You were with your lady friend.

Silence.

George: My what?
Faith: Lady friend.
George: Lady friend. What kind of a word’s that?
Faith: It’s like fucking only you don’t tell anyone about it. That’s what it is.

Trivia: Writer Bo Goldman and director Alan Parker developed the film’s screenplay by meeting for several weeks and talking about their respective marriages.

Dialogue On Dialogue: This is a fine drama which I saw at the time of its release. Notice how in this scene, the big revelation — Faith knows about George’s affair — is all wrapped up in two bits of business: George searching for his glasses, Faith cleaning up the kitchen. It gives the scene a visual boost as opposed to two static talking heads.
