Daily Dialogue — August 19, 2017

TRIS: Shut it down.
JEANINE: No.

Tris watches the security monitors, then takes the knife to Jeanine’s throat.

TRIS: I’m not going to ask you again. Do it! Shut it down!
JEANINE: I admire you’re willing to die for what you believe, but so am I. (Tris hesitates) You can’t do it, can you?

Tris scans the monitors again, then notices the serum and injector lying on the floor. She looks to Four.

JEANINE: Maybe you’re not quite as Dauntless as you thought you were.
TRIS: You’re right. I’m not. I’m Divergent.

Trivia: The film was shot on location in Chicago, the setting in the book, and Burger wanted to use as much of the city as possible. He decided to shoot the film like street photography but where the streets are 150 years in the future.

Divergents (those capable of thinking or acting independently outside the social norms) are a threat to social cohesion, and government control. Throughout her story, Tris hides her true nature, until this moment when she wears her ‘broken’ hidden identity with pride.”
