“How’d you like some ice cream, Doc?”

The Shining (1980), screenplay by Stanley Kubrick & Diane Johnson, novel by Stephen King

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Ice Cream.

Trivia: Prior to hiring Diane Johnson as his writing partner, Stanley Kubrick rejected a screenplay written by Stephen King. King’s script was a much more literal adaptation of the novel, a much more traditional horror film, than the film Kubrick would ultimately make. He was considering hiring Johnson because he admired her novel “The Shadow Knows”, but when he found out she was a Doctor of Gothic Studies, he became convinced she was the person for the job.

Dialogue On Dialogue: A scary ice cream moment? Yep. If I recall correctly, this is the first out of the ordinary moment in the movie.
