Daily Dialogue — December 11, 2014

Joanna: You know what, Stan, if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your pretty boy over there, Brian, why don’t you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?
Stan, Chotchkie’s Manager: Well, I thought I remembered you saying that you wanted to express yourself.
Joanna: Yeah. You know what, yeah, I do. I do want to express myself, okay. And I don’t need 37 pieces of flair to do it. (flips off Stan) I hate this job. I hate this goddamned job and I don’t need it!

Office Space (1999), screenplay by Mike Judge

Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Quitting.

Trivia: The film is loosely based on director Mike Judge’s animated shorts of the same name.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Oftentimes quitting is precisely what a character needs to do to move forward in their life. We see something of that here as Joanna ends her bromide with an honest confession: She hates the job. And indeed, she does not need it. She needs something else.
