Daily Dialogue — December 31, 2014

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Party. Today’s suggestion by Will King.

Trivia: The script was written as a Disney Channel Original Movie; however, it caught the eyes of a few bigger studio heads at Disney, and they felt it was strong enough to carry a good theatrical performance.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by Will: For some reason, this week’s theme brings to mind mostly musical moments. I guess in my mind party/celebration scenes are paired with musicals or musical scenes. There are so many musicals in Hollywood history, but they are rarely profiled as examples.

One of my favorite party scenes comes from the Disney film Hocus Pocus that has become a staple of the Halloween season with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters who are brought back to life after 300 years and turned loose on an unsuspecting New England town. In this scene they reinterpret Screaming’ Jay Hawkins’ 1956 song “I Put A Spell On You.”
