Coach Norman Dale: Alright, listen up, listen up. Here’s what we’re going to do. Jimmy, they’re going to be expecting you to take the last shot. We’re going to use you as a decoy. Buddy, you get the ball to Merle on the picket fence, he’s going to take the last shot. Alright, let’s go.

The boys are unhappy with the plan.

Coach Norman Dale: What’s a matter with you guys? What’s a matter with you?
Jimmy Chitwood : I’ll make it.
Coach Norman Dale: Alright, Buddy? Get Jimmy the ball at the top of the key. The rest of you spread the floor. Let’s go. Team.

Trivia: Jimmy Chitwood has only 4 lines of dialogue in the whole movie. He has 3 lines in the scene where Coach Dale wins the vote to keep his job, then “I’ll make it” in the climactic game.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by James: “A big part of elation is the building anticipation leading up to the moment. Will it be elation or defeat? And is there a better visual picture of elation then Dennis Hopper jumping up and down on a bed? Great movie, great scene.”
