Mary: Dean! What are you doing here? 
Dean: I’m going to my Prom. 
Mary: Mercy House let you guys take the van? 
Dean: Well, no, not really, we sort of led a rebellion and swiped it. You’re pregnant? 
Mary: I wanted to tell you… 
Dean: Our first time?

Mary nods.

Dean: That’s so awesome.

Trivia: According to producer Sandy Stern, the film had gone through “about 200 rewrites”. The original script had Hilary Faye, played by Mandy Moore, shooting up the school.

Dialogue On Dialogue: This is a sleeper of a movie with some terrific (at the time) young actors. It’s surprising in so many ways, just like Dean’s reaction to the news from Mary.
