Tracy: Do you know you have an animal growing out of your pants?

Dooley: Thanks, hon. I also have a dog here.

— Tracy (Mel Harris), Dooley (James Belushi), K-9 (1989), written by Steven Siegel & Scott Myers

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is snappy answers to dumb questions, suggested by Richard who also suggested K-9.

Trivia: Jerry Lee was played by Rando, a 3-year-old German Shepherd from West Germany. A year-long search was held to find the right dog for the role. Over 40 dogs were considered, but none of the American German Shepherds were deemed suitable. Rando trained for 3 months with Karl Lewis Miller and learned to understand commands in English.

Dialogue On Dialogue: The writers were clearly working with double entendre to create humor, using a pun regarding animal / dog to “convey an indelicate meaning.”
