Daily Dialogue — January 2, 2014

“Ah, I shoulda known you was at this party, and ya know, with all that Jheri Curl juice you got in your hair, you better not Ever do a crime! The police won’t have any problem finding you! ‘Follow the drip, follow the drip!’”

— House Party (1999), written by Reginald Hudlin

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Party.

Trivia: Served as the thesis film for director Reginald Hudlin for his Harvard University degree.

Dialogue On Dialogue: The role of Pop was played by Robin Harris. I knew a comic who opened for Harris one night in Compton. He invited me. So my wife and I went. We were the only white people at the show. As soon as Harris saw us, that was it. He made jokes about us all throughout his set. We were his runner, he’d do of his routine, then check in with “the white folks.” He kept referring to my wife as “Suzy Chapstick”. He was great, had the audience howling. Here is Harris from his role in Do the Right Thing.

Sadly Harris died just 9 days after House Party was released. You may check out video of his stand-up here.
