“All the ways you wish you could be, that’s me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.”

Fight Club (1999), screenplay by Jim Uhls, novel by Chuck Palahniuk

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Flashback.

Trivia: Chuck Palahniuk revealed that when he wrote the book, he did not actually know that Tyler and the Narrator were the same person until he was two thirds of the way through writing the story, at which point he noticed that they acted together as one person and chose to finish the story as such.

Dialogue On Dialogue: The pivotal moment in the story in which Narrator realizes that he is Tyler Durden. This epiphany is driven home by a series of flashbacks, each no more than a few seconds long, reflective of the flashing images bursting into Narrator’s mind.
