Daily Dialogue — January 4, 2014

C.C. Baxter: The mirror… it’s broken.
Fran Kubelik: Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

The Apartment (1960), screenplay by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Party.

Trivia: This was the last B&W movie to win Best Picture at The Academy Awards until The Artist (2011).

Dialogue On Dialogue: Of course I couldn’t let this theme — party — pass by without referencing the famous office Christmas party scene from my very favorite movie The Apartment. The party is an entire sequence and represents a significant plot point, both for Kubelik and Baxter, each of whom has a secret revealed to them which neither of them is pleased to discover. By the way, this sequence was the inspiration for a pitch Burg & Myers sold to Paramount: Duane Moody’s Office Christmas Party.
