Trivia: Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is based on Screenwriter Will Reiser, who was diagnosed with cancer, and later recovered. Seth Rogen (Kyle) helped Reiser cope with his disease, and convinced him to write a screenplay during their early twenties together.

Dialogue On Dialogue: When is cancer funny? Well, pretty much never. However, 50/50 does a good job balancing drama and humor as in this scene where Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) cuts off his hair with a semi-assist from his friend Kyle (Seth Rogen).
