Sal: Sonny, they said on the TV, two homosexuals in the bank, right on TV. Did you hear what they said?
Sonny: They can say anything they want, let ’em say…
Sal: I’m not a homosexual. You tell them to get that right, that’s going out on the TV.
Sonny: It don’t matter. It’s just a freak show to them, they can say anything they want.

Dog Day Afternoon (1975), screenplay by Frank Pierson, based on a magazine article by P.F. Kluge and Thomas Moore

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Bank.

Trivia: The film’s dialogue is mostly improvised, while completely honoring the structure of the original screenplay. After rehearsing for three weeks with his cast, Sidney Lumet took the improvisations from those rehearsals and made that the official screenplay.

Dialogue On Dialogue: As far as bank heist movies go, Dog Day Afternoon stands right up there are the top of the heap. One reason: The fascinating exploration of the personal lives of the robbers, especially in light of the fact homosexuality and cross-dressing were not the subjects of common civil discourse.
