“Hello. Anybody here?”

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Unexpected Death, suggested by Angry Cyborg.

Trivia: In the novel, Dick Hallorann’s grandmother (and her great grandmother) also had the Shining and they carried on conversations mentally. Hallorann was sexually abused by his grandfather when he was five, who used to call Hallorann Dickie-Bird. He also burned Hallorann with a cigarette or bite him, but said nothing would happen if Dick told his parents because of their inheritance. He later died of a stroke, but he came back to haunt Dick like Mrs. Massey came back to haunt Danny.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Nothing much to say except in a horror movie, if a character walks through a dangerous place saying, “Hello? Anybody here?”, we pretty much know what’s coming. In 1980 when The Shining came out, maybe not so much. And, of course, Kubrick is a master at building suspense.
