The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Unexpected Death, suggested by Angry Cyborg.

Trivia: The Coen brothers said they wrote the screenplay for this film while writing the screenplay for No Country for Old Men (2007). They would usually alternate every other day for each script.

Dialogue On Dialogue: This is the Coen brothers’ variation on the post-modern trope of violence and death occurring while an ironic song plays in the background. Here Harry (George Clooney) whistles, then sings the insipid lyrics to “Born Free” blissfully unaware he’s about to shoot the hapless Chad (Brad Pitt) in a most unexpected death.

By the way and as usual for the Coens, they included that tiny detail of the song “Born Free” in the script.
