“Are not the satisfactions of being a good man among our common men great enough to sustain us anymore?”

The Big Chill (1983), written by Lawrence Kasdan and Barbara Benedek

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Eulogy.

Trivia: The script is co-written by Barbara Benedek who is the wife of UTA founding partner Peter Benedek.

Dialogue On Dialogue: The dialogue derives from the minister presiding over the memorial service for Alex, who committed suicide, the reason why his friends from college gather from all around the country for a reunion. The question the minister poses is a harsh one, yet plays as a theme throughout the story. It also sets the stage for the song which gets played on the church organ and continues through the funeral scenes: “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.
