Trivia: Actual lines of dialogue were written for Wilson the volleyball, to help Tom Hanks have a more natural interaction with the inanimate object.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Yes, a sidekick can be an inanimate object, in this case a volleyball. Given that Chuck is the only animate character once he’s stranded on the island, it was a stroke of creative genius for Wilson to come into existence — to give Chuck someone to talk to… and argue with.
