Daily Dialogue — May 2, 2012

Jenny: This is my very good friend, Mr. Gump. Can you say hi to him?
Forrest Junior: Hello, Mr. Gump.
Forrest: Hello.
Forrest Junior: Can I go watch TV now?
Jenny: Yes, you can, just keep it low.
Forrest: You’re a mama, Jenny.
Jenny: I’m a mama. His name’s Forrest.
Forrest: Like me.
Jenny: I named him after his daddy.
Forrest: He got a daddy named Forrest, too?
Jenny: You’re his daddy, Forrest.

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is revelation, suggested by Alexander Gorelik.

Trivia: Warner Bros. gave up the rights to the film in 1988, in exchange for the rights to Executive Decision, because the studio felt that the project had lost its commercial promise in the wake of Rain Man.

Dialogue On Dialogue: There are actually two big revelations in this scene. The first that Forrest is the father. The second is this:

Forrest: But is he smart or is he… 
[motions to himself]
Jenny: Very smart. He’s one of the smartest in the class.

I always thought that was such a beautiful and very real touch, that this would be one of Forrest’s first concerns, whether the effects of his own gene pool would have been passed along.

Such a great scene, capped so wonderfully by father and son, sitting side-by-side watching “Sesame Street,” both tilting their heads at the exact same time and angle.
