Daily Dialogue — May 27, 2014

Dumbledore: Mysterious thing, time. Powerful, and when meddled with, dangerous. Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of the dark tower. You know the laws, Miss Granger. You must not be seen, and you would do well, I feel, to return before this last chime. If not, the consequences are too ghastly to discuss. If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life may be spared. Three turns, should do it, I think.

He starts to exit, turns back.

Dumbledore: Oh, by the way. When in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin. Good luck.

He exits.

Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Time Travel Talk, suggested by Bob_Reo_Inc. Today’s suggestion by Barbara Thomas.

Trivia: In order to acquaint himself with his three lead actors, director Alfonso Cuarón had each of them write an essay about their characters, from a first-person point of view. Emma Watson, in true Hermione fashion, went a little overboard and wrote a 16-page essay. Daniel Radcliffe wrote a simple one-page summary, and Rupert Grint never even turned his in.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by Babara: “In one brief paragraph, Dumbledore tells Hermione how to use time travel to solve the problem at hand, explains to the audience how time travel works (that there are laws governing time travel, that her future self cannot be seen,that she will need to turn some device three times) and stays true to his character — as usual, he’s going to manipulate the outcome he wants, while maintaining plausible deniability about it all.”
