Daily Dialogue — October 18, 2018
“My name is Lester Burnham. This is my neighborhood; this is my street; this is my life. I am 42 years old; in less than a year I will be dead. Of course I don’t know that yet, and in a way, I am dead already.”
— American Beauty (1999), written by Alan Ball
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Opening Line.
Trivia: The helicopter shot at the beginning of the movie was originally for a flying sequence where Lester floats over the houses and then down onto his bed.
Dialogue On Dialogue: Isn’t it interesting how many memorable opening lines in movies use voice-over narration (see: Stand By Me, Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd., The Apartment, Casablanca).
