Daily Dialogue — October 25, 2015

“Then I saw it. I saw a mom who would die for her son, a man who would kill for his wife, a boy, angry and alone, laid out in front of him, the bad path. I saw it and the path was a circle, round and round. So I changed it.”

Looper (2012), written by Rian Johnson

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Selflessness.

Trivia: Rian Johnson had been collecting ideas for this movie since 2002.

Dialogue On Dialogue: One of my very favorite science fiction movies ever. Such humanity to it. This Final Struggle scene is a beautiful blend of visual imagery and use of voice-over narration, the facts of potential fate playing out in front of Young Joe’s eyes. His choice — to shoot himself — is both selfless and inevitable… and yet surprising in the moment. That represents the best of all worlds when it comes to screenwriting. Masterful work by writer-director Rian Johnson.
