Daily Dialogue — September 14, 2015

“No, we are not an effective team.”

Oblivion (2013), screenplay by Karl Gajdusek and Michael Arndt, original story and graphic novel by Joseph Kosinski

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Minimum Words, Maximum Impact. Today’s suggestion by Will King.

Trivia: Initially, Disney had acquired the rights to Joseph Kosinski’s script in a heated auction. However, they later realized that making a PG-rated film based on the script would require a lot of story changes. The rights were subsequently acquired by Universal Pictures.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by Will: “Throughout the story, Mission Control has monitored the condition of Victoria’s and Jack’s working relationship by asking the question, “Are you an effective team?” Victoria has always responded, “We are an effective team,” until this point. Jack has begun to doubt their mission, and this change in Victoria’s response shows how everything has changed for Jack in a few simple words.”
