EXT. NORMAN CAY — BAHAMAS — DUSK

George cruises through the turquoise water of the Caribbean in a sport fisherman. Before him is Norman Cay. White sand beaches. Beautiful. Pristine. Waiting for him is Cesar.

CESAR: Welcome my friend. It’s been a long time.
GEORGE: Don’t touch me.

INT. THE YACHT CLUB — CONTINUOUS

The Yacht Club is a tavern style bar that juts out over the water. The crimson sky streaks the windows. Diego looks like Che Guevara. His hair is long, and a graying beard sticks through his gaunt face. The bar has been taken over by Diego’s BANDITOS. Automatic weapons and PROSTITUTES accent this drunken setting. George is escorted through the door by Cesar, and the room quiets. All eyes on Diego and George. Diego rises up from sniffing cocaine.

DIEGO: Hey, happy to see you, George… My brother.
GEORGE: No more brothers, Diego.
DIEGO: Why do you say that? Huh? You hurt me, George. Of course we are brothers.
GEORGE: You fucked me.
DIEGO: I did not. (Chuckles) I didn’t.
GEORGE: You went behind my back. You cut me out — you fucked me.
DIEGO: Me? No, never George. (Chuckles) Never…
GEORGE: I talked to Derek.

There is a pause. Diego scoops up a cringer with his pinky and sniffs.

DIEGO: Well, Maybe you’re right. Maybe I did betray you a little bit.

Everyone laughs. George is furious. He starts to tremble and his face turns red.

DIEGO: Yeah… Yeah, I stole your California connection. So what? Hm? Who introduced you to Pablo Escobar? Hm? Me. Me. Who introduced you to your fucking Colombian wife? Hm? Me. Who protect you when my friend Cesar Roza wanted to slice your fucking throat, huh? Me. Who made you make millions and millions of dollars? Me. And what do I get in return? This? Accusations? I have always given you everything, George. Always… but that is over now… Y’know this is my operation, my dream. So go home… Go back home — go home, go back to your stupid little life. Go back and sell half grams to your relatives for all I care because you are out of…

George lunges at Diego and is immediately grabbed.

DIEGO: Because you’re out! And don’t be so emotional, George. We’re brothers. We are brothers.

George puts his gun to his temple and — CLICK. Nothing happens. Diego says something to his men in Spanish.

GEORGE: The next time it’s fucking loaded.

They lead him away.

DIEGO: Bye. Bye. Bye… Bye. Bye… Bye. Bye.

Blow (2001), screenplay by Nick Cassavetes, David McKenna, book by Bruce Porter

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Betrayal. Today’s suggestion by GNetterville.

Trivia: There’s a pattern to the film’s plot. Everytime George says “everything is perfect”, things will start to go wrong in his life.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by GNetterville: “Just a classic pivot in movies of this genre–but with Johnny Depp. Two men confide in one another when they’re locked up in prison. They get out. Start making money. Then one wants it all for himself. Depp’s new film ‘Black Mass’ will be out later this year and this is a solid performance from his pre-swashbuckling days.”
