Daily Dialogue theme for next week: Comic set piece

After a week of smooth talking, a suggestion courtesy of David Proenza, we move onto next week’s theme: comic set piece as put forth by Shaula Evans.

What is a comic set piece?

Here is how Billy Mernit defines it at his terrific site Living the Romantic Comedy:

A set piece is an extended scene or sequence that exploits the setting or “world” of the movie to build from one joke or thrill to a series of same, climaxing in a satisfyingly big pay-off topper.

In other words, something like this:

What memorable comic set pieces can you conjure up?

The usual drill:

* Copy/paste dialogue from IMDB Quotes or some other transcript source.

* Copy/paste the URL of an accompanying video from MovieClips or YouTube.

I’d also like to ask you to think about why the dialogue is notable. Is there anything about the dialogue which provides some takeaway re screenwriting.
