Daily Dialogue theme for next week: Witty banter

Daily Dialogue theme for next week: Witty banter

I guess we’re all exhausted from a week’s worth of sex scenes (thanks to a suggestion by Dean Scott). So next week, we’ll get some pep in our step from the theme: Witty Banter, suggested by stoneinthesling.

Peter Joshua: Reggie, cut it out.
Reggie Lampert: Okay.
Peter Joshua: Well, now what are you doing?
Reggie Lampert: Cutting it out.
Peter Joshua: Who told you to do that?

This should be easy and it might be a good opportunity to revisit some films from decades gone by which were rich with dialogue, like It Happened One Night, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, and His Girl Friday. Many screenwriters were playwrights whose strengths were dialogue, combined with the Hayes Code which forced writers to use subtext to deal with touchy subjects such as drugs, violence and sex.

In any event, I expect you to know this suggestion out of the park with some great ideas for next week!

The usual drill:

* Copy/paste dialogue from IMDB Quotes or some other transcript source.

* Copy/paste the URL of an accompanying video from YouTube or some other video source.

I’d also ask you to think about why the dialogue is notable. Is there anything about the dialogue which provides some takeaway re screenwriting?

Here is the lineup for upcoming Daily Dialogue themes:

June 10-June 16: All is lost [Turambar]

June 17-June 23: Dinner scene [Liri Nàvon]

June 24-June 30: Interrogations [Def Earz]

July 1-July 7: Profanity [JasperLamarCrab]

July 8-July 14: Begging for one’s life [Despina]

July 15-July 21: Horror scene [@JaimePrimak]

See you in comments for your suggestions featuring this week’s theme: Witty banter.
